Painter, graphic artist, fabric designer, teacher. Born in Vitebsk in the family of Mark Magaril (1902). Studied under Marc Chagall, Kazimir Malevich and Vera Yermolaeva at the Vitebsk School of Art (1919–22) and under Mikhail Matiushin at the VKhUTEIN in Petrograd/Leningrad (1922–26). Member of UNOVIS (1920) and Zorved (1923). Designed fabrics at the Ivanovo-Voznesensk Chintz Factory (1925). Visited Kazakhstan with Nikolai Kostrov (1930). Taught at schools in Leningrad (from 1929) and Biisk in the Altai Region (1942–45) and at the Leningrad School of Art (1945–51). Member of the Leningrad branch of the Union of Artists (1947), expelled for not working in a Socialist Realist style (1952), reinstated (1966). Died in Leningrad (1987). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1923).
