Painter, graphic artist, photographer, poet, writer, sailor. Born in the family of a border-guard called Vasily Gavrilchik in the town of Termez in south-east Uzbekistan (1929). Worked as an amateur painter (from 1955). Member of the Leningrad underground culture (1970s). Died at the age of eighty-eight in St Petersburg (2017). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1971), including Play and Passion in Russian Fine Art at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (1999–2000), Twosome at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2002–03), Times of Change: Art in the Soviet Union (1960–85) at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2006) and Twosome: Twentieth-Century Paintings from Private Collections at the Kournikova Gallery in Moscow (2008).
