Painter, graphic artist. Born in the family of a cleaning lady and an unknown father in Leningrad (1944). One of the most exciting figures in the Leningrad underground art movement (1960s–70s). Emigrated to the United States (1980). Worked in the United States (1980–82) and Austria, Italy and France (1982–89). Returned to Russia (1989), where he painted works of a religious nature (early 1990s). Committed suicide in St Petersburg (1994). Contributed to exhibitions, including the shows of nonconformist art at the Nikolai Kozitsky Factory House of Culture (late 1960s), Ivan Gaza Palace of Culture (1974) and Nevsky Palace of Culture in Leningrad (1975), Jesus Christ in Christian Art and Culture (14th to 20th Centuries) at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2000) and Times of Change: Art in the Soviet Union (1960–85) at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2006).
