Sculptor, restorer, teacher. Born Yury Tilman in a family of Chinese-language instructors in the city of Vladivostok in the Far East (1945). Moved with his family to Moscow (1952). Studied restoration at the Higher School of Art and Industry in Moscow (1960s). Nonconformist artist (from 1976). Emigrated to Italy (1984). Lives and works in Milan. Contributed to exhibitions (from 1974), including Abstraction in Russia: XX Century at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2001–02).
