Yury Gobanov

Painter, graphic artist. Born in the family of Ivan Gobanov in the city of Syktyvkar in north-west Russia (1941). Studied literature at the Arkhangelsk Pedagogical Institute (1962–68, interval for national service). Met Vladimir Sterligov (1972). Member of the St Petersburg Creative Union of Artists (1991). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1975), including Abstraction in Russia: XX Century at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2001–02) and Times of Change: Art in the Soviet Union (1960–85) at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2006).
