Marina Zhukova

Artist. Born in the city of Kurgan (1960). Graduated from the Faculty of Painting of the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad (1987). Member of the Union of Artists (1991). Developed the concept of “former painting” – cleaning her pictures of layers of paint, manipulating cleaned canvases as objects and creating book-objects, reliefs and clothes. Lives and works in St Petersburg. Contributed to exhibitions (from 1985), including one-woman shows at Elmshorn in Cologne (1992–95), Methodics of the Negative Process at the Gallery 21 in St Petersburg (1995), Russian Museum in St Petersburg (1997) and the Borei Gallery in St Petersburg (1998).
