Antonio Eligio Fernández Rodríguez (Tonel)

Born: 1958, Havana (Cuba)

Cuban artist. Born in Havana (1958). Graduated from the Facultad de Bellas Artes y Humanidades, University of Havana (1982). Founded the Hexágono group of artists with five fellow students (1983). Co-curator of the Kuba o.k. exhibition (1990). Fellow of the Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst, Aachen (1992). Decorated by the Ministerio de Cultura de Cuba for his contribution to national culture (1994). Fellow of the Simon R. Guggenheim Memorial Foundation International, New York (1995), Rockefeller Foundation, Latin American and Latino Art Research Program in Texas and the Archer M. Huntington Art Gallery, University of Texas, Austin (1997). Lives and works in Havana. Contributed to Yo lo que quiero es ser feliz at the Proyecto Castillo de La Fuerza, Consejo Nacional de las Artes Plásticas and Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Havana (1989), No Man is an Island.
