Natalia Nesterova

Born: 1944, Moscow

Painter, graphic artist. Born in the family of architect Igor Nesterov in Moscow (1944). Studied at the Moscow Secondary School of Art (1955–62) and under Dmitry Zhilinsky at the Vasily Surikov Institute of Art in Moscow (1962–68). Member of the Union of Artists (1969). Awarded a silver medal (1990) and an honorary gold medal (2004) of the Russian Academy of Arts. Professor of the Russian Academy of Theatrical Art (from 1991). Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation (1994). Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts (1997), full member of the Russian Academy of Arts (2001). Winner of the State Prize of the Russian Federation (1999) and the Triumph Prize (2002). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1966), including Jesus Christ in Christian Art and Culture (14th to 20th Centuries) at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2000), Twosome at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2002–03), St Petersburg: A Portrait of the City and its Citizens at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2003), Times of Change: Art in the Soviet Union (1960–85) at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2006), Poésie de l’eau dans l’Art Russe at the Palais Lumière in Evian (2007), Twosome: Twentieth-Century Paintings from Private Collections at the Natalia Kournikova Gallery in Moscow (2008) and joint exhibitions with Lazar Gadayev in Moscow (1989, 1993), Munich (1993), Ulyanovsk (2000), Saratov (2000), Samara (2000) and Volgograd (2000).
