Mikhail Pikov

Graphic artist, painter, illustrator. Born in the family of Ivan Pikov in the village of Shmonikha in Vyatka Province (1903). Studied at the Vyatka School of Art and Industry (1920–21) and the VKhUTEMAS/VKhUTEIN in Moscow (1921–30). Studied under Vladimir Favorsky (from 1925) and collaborated with the artist (until 1941). Worked for various publishing houses. Illustrated ancient tragedies, medieval oriental philosophical poetry, Old Russian epics and Russian folk tales. People’s Artist of the RSFSR. Died in Moscow (1973). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1931).
