Grand Duke Peter Petrovich II was the eleventh child and fifth son of Peter the Great and Catherine I. He was born in St Petersburg in 1719. Died in October 1723 and buried in the St Alexander Nevsky Monastery in St Petersburg. Peter the Great was extremely upset at his death, which removed the last chance to see a son on the Russian throne.
