The Premier Site for Russian Culture
Central three-storey building with round turrets in the corners possibly designed by Vasily Bazhenov (1773–77). Joined with arched galleries to two symmetrical side wings by Giacomo Quarenghi (1783–84). The side wings were linked by a chain railing held in the mouths of twenty-nine cast-iron lions (first half of 19th century). The large landscape park with pavilions was a favourite spot for promenades (19th century).
