Alexei Rostovtsev

Died: after 1746

Engraver, draughtsman, illustrator. Born in Moscow in the family of a palace clerk called Ivan Rostovtsev (c. 1690). Studied under Vasily Kiprianov at the Moscow Printing Works. Worked under Pieter Pickaerdt and Alexei Zubov at the St Petersburg Printing Works (1711–27) and at the palace of engraving of the Imperial Academy of Sciences (1728–29). Lived and worked in Moscow (from 1729). Worked on the album celebrating the coronation of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna (1744) and engraved commissions for the Holy Synod Printing Works (1746).
