Nikolai Krasovsky

Nikolai Krasovsky (1840–1906), Russian painter, graphic artist, sculptor. Graduated from the First Military Academy in St Petersburg and served in the Jäger Lifeguards Regiment in Gatchina. Studied battle-painting at the Imperial Academy of Arts.

Painter, graphic artist, sculptor. Born in the family of Pavel Krasovsky (1840). Educated at the First Military Academy in St Petersburg (1850s). Independently studied drawing and sculpture while serving in the Jäger Lifeguards Regiment in Gatchina (1860s). Elected an honorary fellow of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1869). Resigned from the regiment (1870) and studied battle-painting as an extern student of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1870s). Awarded two minor silver medals and a major encouragement medal (1874). Painted the figures in watercolours and drawings by Léon Benois (1880). Sculpted a statue of Tsar Alexander II on horseback (1881). Died in an unknown location (1906). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1869). Contributed to the exhibitions of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1869, 1877, 1889), St Petersburg: A Portrait of the City and its Citizens at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2003) and the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia (1876).
