Sculptor, draughtsman. Son of the sculptor and bronzesmith Fyodor Kovshenkov (1785–1850). Studied drawing (1835–40) and sculpture under Baron Peter Clodt von Jürgensburg (1835–52) at the Imperial Academy of Arts, graduating with the title of non-class artist (1852). Academician (1860). Later abandoned sculpture and lived in the provinces (1863–71), St Petersburg (1871–75), Moscow (1875–92) and Chelm in Poland (1892–98). Contributed to exhibitions at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1852) and the Great London Exposition (1862).
