Philippe Benoist

French painter, lithographer. Born in Geneva (1813). Studied under Louis-Jacques-Mande Daguerre (inventor of the daguerreotype) in Paris. Contributed works to A Painterly and Archaeological Journey across Russia in 1839 (1839), Daziaro’s series of views of Moscow and St Petersburg, Views of the Blachernae Village (1841) and St Isaac’s Cathedral: An Architectural, Painterly and Historical Description (1845). Died in Paris (1881). Contributed drawings and lithographs of architectural views and landscapes to the Paris Salon (1836–79).
