Zhanna Brovina

Zhanna Brovina (born 1941), Russian nonconformist sculptress, graphic artist, painter. Studied at the Leningrad Institute of Exact Mechanics and Optics and the Vera Mukhina School of Art and Industry. Worked for the Combine of Graphic Art of the Art Foundation. Member of the Union of Artists, International Federation of Artists and International Association of Art.

Sculptress, graphic artist, painter. Born in the family of Ivan Brovin in Leningrad (1941). Studied at the Leningrad Institute of Exact Mechanics and Optics (1959–66) and the Vera Mukhina School of Art and Industry in Leningrad (1967–71). Met Valentin Levitin (1963) and took up carving on wood (1966). Worked for the Combine of Graphic Art of the RSFSR Art Foundation (1968–94). Met Mikhail Schwartzmann in Moscow (1970) and associated with Gerta Nemyonova, Pavel Kondratiev, Tatyana Glebova and Sergei Sheff in Leningrad (1970s). Member of the Union of Artists (1990), International Federation of Artists (1991) and International Association of Art (1995). Lives and works in St Petersburg. Contributed to exhibitions (from 1975). Contributed to the Exhibition of Works by Leningrad Artists at the Palace of Youth in Leningrad (1983), Petersburg ‘93: Panorama of Modern Art at the Manège Central Exhibition Hall in St Petersburg (1993), Abstraction in Russia: XX Century at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2001–02), Times of Change: Art in the Soviet Union (1960–85) at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2006), Point of View at the MonaCo Art Hall in St Petersburg (2008), II “Sea Level” International Festival of Independent Art at the Manège Central Exhibition Hall in St Petersburg (2009) and joint exhibitions with Valentin Levitin at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2005), with Irina Brovina at the Valencia Gallery in St Petersburg (2007) and with Valentin Levitin at the MonaCo Art Hall in St Petersburg (2010).
