Ivan Govorkov

Born: 1949, Leningrad

Painter, graphic artist, sculptor, object artist, installation artist, teacher. Born in the family of Vladislav Govorkov in Leningrad (1949). Graduated from the Leningrad Secondary School of Art (1967). Studied under Andrei Mylnikov at the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1968–74) and worked in Andrei Mylnikov’s creative studio (1974–80). Member of the Union of Artists (1974) and the St Petersburg Creative Union of Artists (1993). Taught drawing at the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (from 1994). Collaborated with Elena Gubanova (from 1990). Lives and works in St Petersburg. Contributed to exhibitions (from 1974), including Abstraction in Russia: XX Century at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2001–02), Collage in Russia: XX Century at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2005–06), Adventures of the Black Square at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2007) and Poésie de l’eau dans l’Art Russe at the Palais Lumie?re in Evian (2007).
