Yefim Cheptsov

Painter, teacher. Born in the family of icon-painter Mikhail Cheptsov in Medvenka in Kursk Province (1875). Studied under Ilya Repin at the Princess Maria Tenisheva School of Art (1895–98) and under Vladimir Makovsky at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1905–11). Fellow of the Imperial Academy of Arts in Italy, Holland and Belgium (1911–14). Taught at the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia studio in Leningrad (1926–29), Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1938–41) and the Potemkin Pedagogical Institute in Moscow (1945–49). Honoured Artist of the RSFSR (1946). Died in Moscow (1950). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1906). Contributed to the exhibitions of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1906, 1910–17), St Petersburg Society of Artists (1908), Society of Travelling Art Exhibitions (1916, 1917), Arkhip Kuinji Society (1918, 1926–30), I State Free Exhibition of Works of Art (1919), Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (1924–29) and the Exhibition of Russian Art in London (1910).
