Opera singer. Born in Odessa in the family of Victor Tartakov (1860). Soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg. Performed more than a hundred roles, including the Demon in Anton Rubinstein’s Demon, Rigoletto in Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto and Iago in Giuseppe Verdi’s Otello. Principal stage director of the Mariinsky Theatre (1909). Taught at the Petrograd Conservatoire (from 1920). Honoured Artist of the RSFSR (1923). Died in Petrograd (1923).
