The Eleventh Year (1928)

Directed by Dziga Vertov; script by Dziga Vertov; camera by Mikhail Kaufman; movie poster by Vladimir Stenberg and Georgy Stenberg.

This film chronicles the great accomplishments of the revolution in the eleventh year of Soviet history. The director creates a breathtaking panorama of the great battle for the industrialisation of the Soviet Union. The subject of labour is linked to the themes of defence of the Communist homeland, the international solidarity of workers and the fight against colonialism.

The film was the brainchild of David Kaufman (1896–1954), a pioneer of the documentary and montage in Soviet and world cinema, who used the pseudonym of Dziga Vertov (Ukrainian for “spinning top”).
