The title Conceptual photography refers less to its roots in the traditions of Conceptualism and more to its distance from photo-journalism and photo-documentalism. This implies photography and all forms of photo-based art as an invariable component of the main tendencies of modern art, explaining why works are described in the context of Conceptualism, Neo-Academicism, geometric tradition and Necrorealism. Many masters remain in the course of the visual and formal self-sufficiency of photographic reproduction. Without rejecting the tension arising between the visual image and its ideological, directional commentary, the works of such artists as Boris Saveliev, Victoria Buivud, Ilya Piganov and Vladislav Yefimov concentrate on the culture of realisation or what is known as camera culture.
