Actor. Born in Kostroma in the family of a merchant called Grigory Volkov (1729). Founded an amateur drama company in Yaroslavl (1750) and the first professional Russian company in St Petersburg (1756). Performed the tragedies of Alexander Sumarokov. Died in Moscow and buried at the St Andronikos Monastery (1763).
