Vasily Stasov

Died: 1848, St Petersburg

Architect, full state councillor. Born in the family of Pyotr Stasov and Anna Priklonskaya (1769). Studied at Moscow University. Joined the Moscow Police Office (1783). Helped to decorate Moscow during the coronation of Tsar Alexander I (1801). Awarded a fellowship to France, Britain and Italy (1802). Professor of the Accademia di San Luca in Rome (1807). Worked for His Imperial Majesty’s Cabinet (1808). Nominated to the Imperial Academy of Arts (1808), academician (1811). Member of the Committee for Construction and Hydraulic Works (1816), honorary fellow of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1826). Designed the Imperial Lyceum in Tsarskoe Selo, Pauline Regiment Barracks, Imperial Court Stables and Chapel, Narva Triumphal Gates, Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Saviour and the Trinity Cathedral. Died in St Petersburg and buried at the St Alexander Nevsky Monastery (1848).
